Beauty Talk #5 – Sarah Fisher, More Than Adored

sarah fisher more than adored

Welcome to another edition of Beauty Talk!

This week, I’m chatting with Sarah Fisher from the popular fashion and lifestyle blog, More Than Adored.

L & B: Tell me about More Than Adored. What inspired you to start a beauty blog and how did you come up with the name?

I started a beauty blog when I wasn’t super excited about my university course and my health wasn’t in the best place. I’ve always loved to write and I had been addicted to writing about makeup so it made sense – it was my escape. Now I would say that MTA has changed directions, focusing on more lifestyle and fashion content as well. I wouldn’t say that the space is solely ‘beauty’ because it’s not and there are way more talented people in the community to look to for how to’s and all that fun stuff.

The name actually makes me cringe because I’m not in love with it anymore. It’s like those Hotmail addresses you had in high school! I’m planning to rebrand eventually in 2017 and become self-titled because that’s the direction MTA has developed into.

Beauty Talk #3 – Emily Crawford, Why Hello Beauty

emily crawford beauty blog

In this week’s edition of Beauty Talk, I’m chatting with the lovely Emily Crawford from the gorgeous blog Why Hello Beauty! Let’s get straight into it, shall we?

Beauty:

Tell me about your AM and PM skincare routine. If you have specific products you use every day, which ones are they?

AM

  • Cleanse with Simplicite Plant Gel Cleanser and spritz with their toner.
  • Apply Simplicite’s Oil Balancing Day Cream with Capillary Serum. Once this has dried, I apply Hylamide’s HA Blur Primer (so my skin is) ready for makeup application.

PM

  • Cleanse with Simplicite Plant Gel Cleanser and exfoliate with their Exfoliating Face Treatment.
  • Almost every night I will do a sheet or clay mask, so this can vary night to night. I love Loreal’s clay masks and any sheet mask from Sephora especially! Sukin also do a great clay mask that never leaves my face dry or tight.
  • I then spritz with Simplicite’s toner and apply their night cream, with their Capillary Serum for any redness or dryness. My eye cream at the moment is from Philosophy and it’s lush!

What’s the best thing to come out of launching your blog?
The invaluable connections with inspirational and beautiful women, without a doubt!

List a couple of your favourite beauty blogger/influencers?
I adore Emily Schuman of Cashmere and Cupcakes, she really is my blogging influence and I love all that she does. She’s really created a brand from a blog. I like keeping an eye on fellow Australian bloggers, who are doing so well in the huge world of Instagram! P.S – Husskie is a great new website that shares all the news about Instagram Infuencers, so I like to catch up on this site weekly.

How has your beauty/skincare routine changed from 5 years ago?
I do a lot more to treat my skin, as opposed to simply cleaning my skin. I like to tailor masks to how my skin is feeling on the daily, and find my skin behaves so much better when treated with quality products and spoilt with evening masks!

The Blog:

Tell me about your blogging journey! What made you start a blog and how did you come up with your blog’s name?

Creating a blog about 4 years ago was mainly for an outlet to express my interest in hair and makeup. As my audience grew I decided to take my blog more seriously and ended up re-branding about 3 years ago as Why Hello Beauty. That’s when I decided to up my flatlay game, choose a new WordPress blog theme, promote my posts in new and different forums and really consider it a part-time job.

Any tips on how to grow your Instagram following?

Connect with like-minded individuals who love everything that you do, and engage with this community. Engage with genuine comments and ‘like’ images that are similar to your own. Use relevant hashtags and connect with people that use these hashtags also. Join Facebook groups to find collabs of all kinds and make new connections!

Do you have a blogging routine or schedule? Tell me about it!

I still work full time outside my blog, so there is no specific schedule from week to week. If I have time, I’ll draft some ideas on lunch breaks and find myself tapping away most nights replying to emails, drafting posts and the like. I like all my photographs to be taken in natural daylight, so I only really take photos on a weekend or early before work, but I am also prone to snoozing more than once! Somehow though, it all comes together each time!

Quick-fire round:

Nude or bold lip?

Nude, always.

Falsies or lash extensions?

I’m not a fan of lash extensions as I find they get in the way when it comes to washing my face, but I also find falsies feel heavy on the eye. Buttttt they look so good, so I’ll say falsies that I can apply for special occasions!

Straightener or curling wand?

Straightener – I have a round face and need to keep the layers around my face sleek for a flattering appearance.

Instagram or Snapchat?

Instagram 24/7!

Tea or coffee?

Of a morning – coffee, and of an evening – tea!

Lipstick or mascara?

Both please!!

Thank you so much, Emily! Be sure to follow Why Hello Beauty on:

– What’s New From Glamourflage –

glamourflage skincare makeup

“Faith was born with the me-me-me! gene and is very comfortable with it, thank you very much! As far as Faith is concerned too much glamour is never enough, or at least that’s Faith’s mantra and she’s sticking with it! In fact, it’s less of a mantra and more a way of life, wouldn’t you agree?”

Glamourflage: Serious Fun…Serious Skincare

If you haven’t heard of the skincare brand Glamourflage, you’re certainly missing out! The super cute and flirty range was founded by British expat Imogen Day in her adopted home of Melbourne.

Inspired by the pin-up girls of the 1940s and 50s, Day created her beautiful range of skincare and beauty products.

The products are comprised of quality, natural ingredients that are NOT tested on animals. I was recently sent a couple of products from the Re-Hydrating range, (which was actually designed with sun-exposed skin in mind) to trial. Today I’m reviewing their Fantastic Faith Facial Re-Hydrating Lotion.Read More

BEAUTY TALK #2 – Madeleine Borgersen, The Daily Mark

Welcome to the latest edition of Beauty Talk! Today I’m chatting with web developer, blogger at The Daily Mark and new mama, Madeleine Borgersen!

The Daily Mark

Beauty:

When did you first realise you were interested in beauty? Any beauty faux pas that come to mind from when you were younger?

I did dancing when I was younger so I was always around makeup to a certain extent. I also remember being obsessed with Mum’s Shiseido makeup. The packaging reminded me of the pocket computer Inspector Gadget’s niece had! I guess that was my first memory of loving beauty and tech!

One faux pas would have to be not filling my brows! I was lucky my mum never let me wax or over pluck. Being fair-haired I really regret not filling in those babies, especially the years I faked being brunette!

BEAUTY TALK #1: Peta Serras, Professional Babe

Peta Serras Professional Babe Beauty

Happy Monday!

Today is the launch of a new weekly series I’ll be posting on Luxe & Bliss, Beauty Talk. I’ll be chatting all things beauty (and a bit of blogging) with a variety of bloggers, influencers, make-up artists and beauty therapists about their ride or die products, common beauty mistakes, tips and tricks and much more.

To kick off the first edition of Beauty Talk, I had a chat with Peta Serras from the kick-ass blog Professional Babe.

Blogging:

Tell me about Professional Babe and the inspiration behind it:

I started my blogging journey about 7 years ago. My blog was actually a Pilates based blog that eventually saw me talking about health and mindset articles. I’ve been a model for 13 years and I usually do the hair and makeup on my shoots, so I was constantly being asked questions about beauty products and posing (for photos).

‘Professional Babe’ was a term I used to use when people started asking me what I did as a job. People were slightly judgey when I responded that I was a model and I owned a Pilates studio. I found ‘Professional Babe’ a little more humorous instead. It was a year or so later than I realised it was a great name and decided to start a blog under it.

Who are your favourite bloggers and/or influencers?

@gemkwatts – a droolworthy Instagram feed
@clementinemcveigh – I need her wardrobe now!
@kristinabazan – my ultimate girl crush
@margoandme – her website is goals

Do you have any tips on how to grow your Instagram following?

Consistently post beautiful aspirational content and your readers will find you.

Do you have a blogging routine or schedule?

Not particularly. I’ll have ideas for posts and I make a loose plan around that. I have another business so I’ll often work late into the night editing photos and writing. I just make sure that I get content out each week and to write my goals down and work on them daily.

What’s the best thing to come out of launching your blog?

My favourite skincare brand, Bioderma, took me to France. I don’t think it gets much better than that!

Beauty:

peta serras professional babe

Tell me about your AM and PM skincare routine(s). If you have specific products you use every day, what are they?

My routine is quite simple and identical from AM to PM. I love the Bioderma Sensibio range. I use their micellar water followed by their rich moisturising cream. My eye cream is by Nuxe and I love their Huile Prodigieuse body oil as well. When my dermatitis is bad I’ll use a kiwi seed extract by Dermaviduals.

bioderma sensibio

What beauty products/tools could you never be without?

1. My blow dryer
2. Bioderma H2O micellar water
3. Lancôme Grandiose liquid liner
4. Red lipstick
5. La Roche-Posay BB cream

If you could only use products from one brand for the rest of your life, what would it be and why?

Definitely Bioderma. Their skincare makes my skin really happy. For makeup products I’d have to say Lancôme or L’Oreal.

What is your biggest beauty or fashion splurge?

I have a thing for expensive accessories. Anything by Gucci always has my heart.

Quick-fire round:

Nude or bold lip? Bold. Always red.

Falsies or lash extensions? Falsies

Straightener or curling wand? Blow dryer!

Instagram or Snapchat? Instagram. Snapchat confuses me.

Tea or coffee? Coffee. Long black, thank you.

Lipstick or mascara? Lipstick – red, always.

Beauty or fashion?  Beauty!

Je Ne Sai Quoi – It Cosmetics Complexion Perfection Face Palette

The Ultimate Travel Companion From It Cosmetics

Are you someone that tends to over pack your cosmetics bag when you travel? I certainly am. So I love any product that can achieve more than one result.

Enter the Je Ne Sais Quoi Complexion Perfection Face Palette from It Cosmetics. The palette contains the brand’s most popular powder products including the Bye Bye Pores Blush, the Bye Bye Pores Pressed powder, and the Matte Bronzer as well as the new Perfecting Lighting Luminizer. The products are packaged in a very girly metallic pink palette that has a nice weight to it, making it feel quite sturdy. Inside the palette is a huge mirror (major points for this!) and the four powders.

Benefits:

  • Perfect Lighting luminizer highlights and enhances your features
  • Featuring award-winning, best-selling Bye Bye Pores Pressed Powder to make your pores disappear!
  • Bye Bye Pores Blush in signature Je Ne Sais Quoi shade brightens your complexion!
  • Sunshine in a Compact Bronzer adds your perfect summer glow!
  • Anti-aging hydrolyzed collagen, silk, peptides and Perfect Lighting Technology

The powders are all very finely milled, meaning they are easy to apply and not at all patchy. While the coloured powders are nicely pigmented, they aren’t going to make you look like you are overdone.

The palette contains a great amount of product, with each powder weighing roughly 6 grams each. This is actually more product than if you were to buy the Bye Bye Pores Blush individually, which makes this a good value buy!

I would recommend this product if you are someone who likes to have several products in one palette, or if you tend to travel a lot and don’t want to pack too many items in your luggage.
